Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith is the greatest Star Wars film of all time.
As any Star Wars fan knows the most accepted ranking of the films is:
Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Episode IV: A New Hope (the original Star Wars)
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
Episode II: The Clone Wars
Episode I: The Phantom Menace.
You can now put Revenge of the Sith as number one, although I suspect some small percentage of folks might put it in the second position after The Empire Strikes Back.
In fact, this film is so good it makes up for how truly horrible the last two films have been.
The only reason this film is not rated R is because when a Light Saber, as opposed to a samurai sword, cuts off an appendage the wound is instantly cauterized without spilling even an ounce of blood. I haven’t seen so many limbs cut off in a film since Kill Bill Vol. 2!
More people are killed in this film with a Light Saber then in every other Star Wars film combinedtimes ten!
There are moments of the film that are as disturbing in their violence as A Clockwork Orange, but like that film the violence serves the storyit doesn’t replace it. Darth Vadar is the greatest film villain of all time, and Lucas solidifies this title by show us exactly how horrible his fall from grace is.
The second thing you’ll realize immediately about this film is that is it much deeper then the previous two gravitas-free, video game-ish episodes. The core themes includes power and corruption, the human inability to deal with mortality, and the search forand throughthe varying versions of the truth.
I’m about to fall asleep, but before I passed out I did this quick podcast.
I’ll write up a larger review tomorrow.
