sheeplols 2 days ago  – It’s hard to tell that this is Annies first
show, she’s a natural.  Great content but you guys really need to
upgrade the studio furniture though.

response for @parislemon on "why i still have a Facebook account"

10/8/2010
MG Siegler who normally has something of substance to say, flames me
in techcrunch (really) for still having a Facebook account. my
response below

http://techcrunch.com/2010/10/07/calacanis-facebook/

MG,

What a waste of a post.

Isn’t there a startup more deserving of this space on techcrunch–or
are you guys just trying to hit me every chance you get?

Silly. Sad. Stupid.

Here is an explanation for you, which will be in the JasonNation.com
newsletter when i do 100 days off Facebook missive.

1. I had to reactivate my account because some services out there that
i need to look at (think companies I’m investing in, Unvarnished, etc)
ONLY allow you to login with Facebook.

2. I disconnected everything from posting there, but sometimes I will
use something old (like i did with qik.com) and discover it’s
connected for syndication.

3. I removed all my stuff and exist as a “facebook ghost.”

Lesson learned: Facebook connect is so pervasive you can’t operate on
lot of new services without a FB account.

Now get back to work doing something intelligent MG…. I expect more
from you. :-)

This company is trusted with 500 people’s data (and growing)?

Really?

Wow.

Team Facebook,

Seems as if anyone can add anyone to a Facebook Group.

There is no “opt in.”

In this case someone added Mike Arrington and I to the “NABLA” group
on Facebook. I know I’m not a member of NAMBLA, and I’m going to guess
that Mike isn’t either.

I’ve now been assigned to a group that advocates… well…. ummm….
you can look it up–it’s very bad.

Also troubling:

1. I was never asked to join the NABLA group
2. I was never informed that I was “force-joined” to the NABLA group.

If you guys want to run these new features by me before you launch
them, I can probably save you from a couple of privacy law suits each
year. :-)

best regards,

Jason

ps – Nice job on the .ZIP export.

ZUCKED AGAIN: You can add anyone to a Facebook group without asking?

10/7/2010

Mike Arrington and I were joined to the NABLE group on Facebook.

I was not asked.
I was not told.
I was simply added…. I’ve been ‘Zucked again!

Hello, my name is Jason. Welcome to my blog on the interwebs. You can reach me on twitter @jason and by email at jason@calacanis.com. My Skype is jasoncalacanis, and my mobile phone is 310-456-4900.

I only pick up numbers I recognize, and in terms of emailing me, the best strategy is to write short, blunt and to the point requests. I can quickly respond to short messages, and many times I simply don't have the time to read five page pitches. In terms of taking meetings, I only do that after reviewing an actual product (not a business plan). So, the best time to ping me is when you have mockups or an alpha site. I don't read business plans, and I've never written one.
