I am a couple of months pregnant and I also have a 4 year old daughter. She already got the regular flu shot I also plan on getting the regular flu shot. I am just unsure of the vaccine for H1N1. Can it do more harm than good? I don't wanna inject my daughter or myself with anything than is going to harm us or my unborn baby. Any thoughts??

My wife just got one this week in Virginia. We were more
concerned about her not getting one. The only thing we
were worried about was possibly catching the swine flu
while waiting in line for hours. Fortunately, they put
pregnant women at the head of the line.

There is more than enough evidence to support the fact that this vaccine is safe.

People who are claiming that it's "brand new" and "untested" know nothing about flu vaccines.

ALL flu vaccines are "brand new" in that sense. They produce them every year from scratch, depending on what the strain of the flu is likely to be for the year. The flu mutates too rapidly for one batch of vaccine to remain effective for much over a year or two.

So in that sense, the H1N1 vaccine is exactly as safe as the "normal" flu vaccine, because it was produced in the exact same way, using the exact same equipment. Every strain of flu is slightly different every single year. The fact that this one got people all panicky means nothing at all.

Better chance of her and the baby dying from the flu than her
getting sick from the shot.

Get the shot!
