I have had one for over a year. No downside that I can tell you about not knowing your type of use.
I have found since I eliminated my land line the only downside is not being able to fax something.
Not sure if this modem will allow that, need to ck it out, however, I use it interchangeably between my laptop and my PC, while traveling in our RV and at home. I would get one in a heartbeat and have recommended it to several friends who also use one.
