More debate about niche blogging…

The debate/discussion over the viability of niche blogging continues (although I really don’t know why… come on people!). TechRecipes is obsessing over it, so I did an interview with them that was just posted. They also interviewed some of the bloggers who’s blogs were shuttered.

Of course, it is unfair to say “AOL killed…” these blogs because it was the decision of the Weblogs, Inc. team to shut them down, and I had started this program with Judith, Brad, and Brian back in the summer of 2006. Our goal was always to focus on the *big* winners and trim the small *winners.* At a big company you need to focus on big things that create big earnings… things like Joystiq, Engadget, Luxist, TVSquad, etc.

Anyway, I don’t work at AOL any more and I’ve said enough about these issues already. No more interviews regarding Netscape, AOL, or Weblogs Inc. please…. if you want to talk about those projects ping AOL now!

Toro, a bulldog

Hello. My name is Jason.
I'm the CEO of Mahalo.com, a human powered search engine. I was previously the co-founder of Weblogs, Inc. with Brian Alvey, and the GM of Netscape.

I'm currently on the board of social shopping site ThisNext. You might remember me from my days as editor and CEO of the Silicon Alley Reporter magazine.

Mike Arrington and I partnered on the TechCrunch40 event in September. We're going to do it again next year.

This is my blog, this is where I live. You should also listen to my podcast.
