A catch phrase will go here soon.

We don't do popunders or popups.

12/31/2005

Note: Some folks have been saying we do popups or popunders recently. Let me be clear: we don’t do popunders or popups.

Once and a while our ad networks like Tribal Fusion or Burst will let one slip in, but this is rare. If you ever see one send me the site you’ve seen it on and I’ll check and make sure it doesn’t happen.

Now, the New York Times does popups and blockers all day long, so I’m not passing judgement on these things. I just personally find popups/unders too much (I don’t mind the blockers for free feature stories–in fact I like them).

Keepin' it real fake!

12/30/2005

Engadget has this great feature called “keepin’ it real fake…” where with the help of our team in China they are finding all kinds of great fakes.

makebot is cool

12/30/2005

makebotIf you haven’t added MakeBot to your AIM yet do it… very slick Bot created by our old partner in crime PT who is working over at Make these days.

JBAT groks it… AIM is an amazing platform. A lot of cool things are in the works that I can’t talk about… keep your ear to the ground. ;-)

Trying to get ThePlanet.com to take down a splog.

12/30/2005

Here is the letter I just sent to ThePlanet.com about the splog that is lifting my posts. I’ll keep everyone posted on exactly how and when ThePlanet.com responds. I’m interested to see how seriously these ISPs take the issue.

Friends at ThePlanet,

The following site which you are hosting, http://www.onlinecashkings.com/, is lifting my RSS feed/content without permission. I’ve tried contacting the host for a number of weeks and they will not respond.

Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.

best regards,

Jason

WIRED story

12/30/2005

Back in 1999 Warren St. John wrote a nice profile in WIRED… the photos came out great. Now Eryn Brown has written a nice profile and the photo is cool. For the record I was smiling for 90% of the photos–they choose a serious one. :-)

Top Ten Podcasts of the year…

12/27/2005

This is very nice… someone made a list of the top 10 podcasts of 2005 and my visit to the Web 2.0 show is #8.

#8: Jason Calacanis on The Web 2.0 Podcast – Jason Calacanis is a riot. Those of you who heard his keynote at the Portable Media Expo know what I’m talking about. Calacanis is both funny and blunt and never lacking for an opinion. His interview on the Web 2.0 Podcast is a prime example of this. He covers a lot of ground including LAN parties, Technorati bombing and of course the recent acquisition his company, Weblogs Inc., by AOL. I’d love to hear a lot more from Calacanis. Since he has a little more time on his hands these days maybe he’ll start podcasting?

Oh yeah… part two of the interview is here:

Hello, my name is Jason. Welcome to my blog on the interwebs. You can reach me on twitter @jason and by email at jason@calacanis.com. My Skype is jasoncalacanis, and my mobile phone is 310-456-4900.

I only pick up numbers I recognize, and in terms of emailing me, the best strategy is to write short, blunt and to the point requests. I can quickly respond to short messages, and many times I simply don't have the time to read five page pitches. In terms of taking meetings, I only do that after reviewing an actual product (not a business plan). So, the best time to ping me is when you have mockups or an alpha site. I don't read business plans, and I've never written one.
