SimplyAudioBooks.com: Netflix for Audiobooks

My old pal PT hooked me up with a really cool service called SimplyAudiobooks.com that basically does what Netflix does for DVD. You build a queue of audio books you want, they send you the discs, you pop them into your iTunes/iPod/car/etc. and then send them back. At around $20 a month if you listen to one and a half books a month you’re easily in the black.

If you do signup feel free to say jason at calacanis dot com referred you (I’ll get a free month I think, plus I want to see if I can get them to advertise across our network since they are so rad.

Still waiting for approval to be in the Yahoo Publisher Network beta.

Hello?!? Is this thing on?!

We would like to try the Yahoo Publisher Network.
We make $3k a day from Google Adsense.
… and we’re good people too!

Can someone from Yahoo get me invited to this thing?!?! jason at calacanis dot com / 310-828-8284

My LinkedIn profile

I’ve been using LinkedIn more and more these days mostly people requesting I connect them to someone in my network, but more and more often folks are getting to me via LinkedIn. This is kind of strange since I have a blog and my email is all over the place. It seems like a LinkedIn request is a more formal request then a simple email. Reminds me an early email program called “The Communicator” that I installed at Amnesty International. The software made you say what kind of email you were sending, i.e. a question, an answer, an FYI, a clarification on a question.

People either hated or love “the Communicator” because it was so rigid.

If you want to add me to your LinkedIn I use my jason at calacanis.com email on LinkedIn so, just go for it.

Technorati Worthless

I’ve been complaining about how worthless the results from Technorati are for the past six months (at least). Now Jason Kottke has kicked out Technorati, and Fred Wilson has done the same.

Amazing how quickly the mighty have fallen. At a conference last year half the screen in the audience seemed to be on Technorati. Now, I do my canned technorati searches and I see nothing but items from a year ago and spam. Ugh.

I think the company has a focus issue. They always seem to be busy doing odd side projects like mobile, Live8, the redesign and CNN. If I was running that company I would focus on one thing and one thing only: the quality of the search results. That’s it. That’s the only reason Technorati exists and that’s the thing they are doing worst.

Come on guys: eyes on the prize eyes on the prize.

Where’s Nick Denton’s big blog search project?!?

Brian: Can you take Technorati out of the Linking Blogs link across the Weblogs, Inc. network and replace them with IceRocket?

Dude. I’m so stealing that.

Congrats to my pal Tom Biro…

… on getting a new gig trying to make the PR business a little more blog-savvy!

What Automotive Magazines do you subscribe to?

The team of at Autoblog put up an interesting post today (of course, it’s biased since it’s being voted on @ Autoblog.com). Now, I love magazines (having launched four of them), but I can’t imagine doing one again as a primary business. As a brand extension, sure. As a primary business no way.

Of all of our blogs which one do you think would make the best quarterly magazine: www.engadget.com, www.luxist.com, www.tuaw.com, www.hackaday.com, www.joystiq.com, www.tvsquad.com, www.cinematical.com, or one of our others?
