Second Life SLAP ad on Boingbonig.net
Go check out where the SLAP ad on Boingboing takes you top left, very cool. (I would link directly, but then they wouldn’t get credit for the clicks from the advertiser
Grand Theft Lego City Video
This is funny Grand Theft Lego City… I’m glad we’ve invested $80 trillion dollars in technology over the past decade.
FlickR tag browser…
This is really hot… type in a tag and get a Brain-style view of the tags around it. Below I did flowers (my tulips came up in the third row down). Tags are neat not a business, but a fun feature.
Del.icio.us raises some money…
Congrats to Joshua of Del.icio.us fame for raising money and quiting his day job on Wall Street. He says he raised some capital, which based on the number of people following him around eTech is not surprising. My bet is Brad from Union Square Ventures put the money in since they were hand-and-hand for two days straight at the event.
More details to come I’m sure
Update: I offered Josh $280 for 60% of Delicious, plus a 3,800x liquidation preference for some reason he passed on it. For some reason Brad (on the left) found this funny. Hmmmm..
We may have just stopped sucking
Well, the new server we were supposed to get last night was never delivered by our hosting company. However, Brian did have an extra web server and moved Engadget to it last night.
Today it seems that every thing is running really fast like faster then ever. However, noon is when the traffic wave really hits so I’m interested to see what happens in the next three hours.
What’s really frustrating about this is that one of the first things I said when we had problems was get a second web server (after I said get a second SQL server last month when that was having problem). If we had done a second web server last week we would have not had any of this downtime, and the speed would have been amazing all week.
Ugh.
Nick Denton not as loathsome as me!
Once again I *OWN* Nick Denton beating him by a full 15 ranking points on the 50 most loathsome list put out by some free newspaper or escort directory (can’t tell which).
Although they did do a horrible drawing of Nick and all I got was a couple of sentences. Perhaps they couldn’t afford to do illustrations of everyone.
Being included on a list with Graydon, Bloomberg, Judith Regan, and Loren Michaels I’ll take.
Oh yeah, they didn’t fact check anything and much of the piece is wrong you get what you pay for I guess.
We still suck, just not as much
We are not down today, but we are veryveryslow. The problems are getting solved, and our team at LogicWorks is trying there best to help us, but the results are still lame.
The tech team here at Weblogs, Inc. and LogicWorks are still not being proactive enough in my mind. We’re still stuck in this “I think we solved it” mode, which makes me crazy. Why not go above and beyond what we think might, if we’re lucky, result in us being up the next day.
I’ve implored them for a week to throw hardware at the problem, but tech folks seems to not like that brute force approach. They always want to solve the problem, which is nice but stupid. Why solve a problem you could just avoid with an extra pair of servers?
If eight days ago we had just put in two extra servers we would be up and running this whole time, and we could have done research on the problems with the benifit of extra firepower.
Right now we’re showing up to a gun fight with a knife and that’s just dumb. Tonight we add two new web servers I’m hoping it helps, but I’m not convinced.
WeWeblogs, Inc. and LogicWorksstill suck.
Yes, we suck.
We’ve had major server and hosting problems for 10 days now. We thought we had them fixed, but they keep hounding us. We took some risks this weekend thinking we had solved some problems and sure enough we had not and paid for it AGAIN today.
Of course, this happened while HackADay was Slashdotted and Boingboing-ed, the New York Autoshow was pounding Autoblog, and the PSP launch was breaking over at Engadget and Joystiq.
We’ve lost a couple of thousand dollars in advertising already thanks to the problems it is making me crazy. I can’t figure out why we and our partners at LogicWorks can’t get this right, but it seems that everyone is going to try a little harder after getting our butts handed to us AGAIN today.
I hate this.
Mac Mini Ram Upgrade 2gig?
Just bought the $599 Mac Mini to play iMovie HD. Of course, with 256Meg of RAM iMovie HD basically laughs when you connect an HD camera to it. I’m about to upgrade to 1Gig (Mac wants $325, every other online store wants $150 hello?), but I’m wondering if anyone has a hack to get the Mini to 2Gig.
Anyone? Anyone?
Conference Producer?
I used to do huge events. Like thousands of people, millions in revenue, and parties every night. I took that last couple of years off, but after going to a couple of dozen events over the past year I’m feeling like I want to do an event again.
Back in the day I had Xeni Jardin of BoingBoing fame and my brother Jamie as my right hand menso to speak.
If you’re a conference producer obsessed with the Internet and who’s got a couple of hundred/thousand folks in your LinkedIn/Friendster/Plaxo/Rolodex, and you’re looking to work like a dog to create cool events send me an email to jason AT calacanis DOT com.
