G4 gaming network is actually… good.

alias video game for xboxI’m watching the G4 network, which is dedicated to video game, right now and I’m actually impressed.

Anytime I’ve watched a show about video games before I’ve been board out of my mind, but they have taken a very insider approach. For example, they are featuring an Alias video game and talking to the writers and directors of the TV show about the games they like and the integration of the story lines in the game and the TV show. It’s pretty slick and I’m getting the urge to go play Command and Conquer.

Howard Stern Bit Torrents and Bryant Park

bryant park 2

I’m in Bryant Park for the second day today.

For the past two years I have always said that the next company I did after Silicon Alley Reporter/Venture Reporter would be virtual. Man, I never wanted to have to write a $40,000 rent check every month ever again.

The working in Bryant Park experiment is now in day two and despite the chill in the air I’ve solved some major issues. The two biggest issues are the homeless people asking for money and the noise created by trucks and sirens.

howard sternIn a stoke of genius I’ve solved both: noise cancellations head phones and downloading the Howard Stern show off of Bit Torrent sans commercials.

Now, the homeless people don’t bother asking me for money because I’ve got huge silly headphones on and the noise from the street is 100% gone thanks to Howard and these $99 Brookstone headphones.

It is very strange to look up from the laptop and not hear any noise coming from the hundreds of people and of cars streaming all around me.

If you’re looking for Howard Stern Bit Torrents I do a google search or check out Suprnova.org.

The other side effect of the Bryant Park schedule is that now people are IMing me setting up meetingat the park.

Al Gore Gone Wild

Al Gore hits the nail on the head at in a recent speechI just read over at MoveOn. The amazing thing is that I’m hearing these same type of statements from the Republicans I know. I can’t wait to vote.

George W. Bush promised us a foreign policy with humility. Instead, he has brought us humiliation in the eyes of the world.

He promised to “restore honor and integrity to the White House.” Instead, he has brought deep dishonor to our country and built a durable reputation as the most dishonest President since Richard Nixon.

Honor? He decided not to honor the Geneva Convention. Just as he would not honor the United Nations, international treaties, the opinions of our allies, the role of Congress and the courts, or what Jefferson described as “a decent respect for the opinion of mankind.” He did not honor the advice, experience and judgment of our military leaders in designing his invasion of Iraq. And now he will not honor our fallen dead by attending any funerals or even by permitting photos of their flag-draped coffins.

How did we get from September 12th , 2001, when a leading French newspaper ran a giant headline with the words “We Are All Americans Now” and when we had the good will and empathy of all the world to the horror that we all felt in witnessing the pictures of torture in Abu Ghraib.

Blogging in Bryant Park

So, I’ve finally found office space in New York. It’s free, it has high speed wifi and there is a Starbucks. I’ve been doing my meetings in Bryant Park this week. In between meetings I pop open the laptop and pound out a few blog posts, email and IMs.

I feel like I’m living in some Intel or Microsoft advertisement from 1996 talking about how great the world is going to be.

Perhaps I should get an assistant and have them sit on a bench by Starbucks and they can greet people, get them a beverage and then walk them over to my desk.

The view from my new office.

Ralph Reed the Southeast Regional chairman of Bush-Cheney 04 spoke about using emails to drive fund raising. He is also talked about how they caught Gore in a lie in a debate and then sent an email to their grassroots constituents and got them to drive the issue home with talk radio.

He added that they had six million people view their web commercials.

Heavy parapharse: You’re going to see a return to a politics of another era more citizen-centered, less media-centered. More and more people are going to feel like they can make a difference. the internet is enabling citizens to be their own civic actors as opposed to passive consumers.

Wonkette gone wild…

wonkette

Anna MarieCox scored a huge scoop last week when she got the jump on the DC sex blogger “Washingtonienne.” (here is the archive). She went on to take the story to an unprecedented level when she posted the photo of her during a night on the town with the now famous Tonienne.

Cox: “We didn’t get home until 1AM. The evening began at the Four Seasons and ended in a suburban Virginia farmhouse. We did not, in the end, have to buy any of our own drinks. Pictures were taken. A cell phone was lost. This morning, Mr. Wonkette made us scrambled eggs. Now, can we move on?”

Wow like, uhhh wow.

That is what I call dedication! AMC, hit me on the AIM (jasoncalacanis) and let’s do lunchI’ll jump on the shuttle.

Google Image Ads…

So I was just on Slashdot and sawfor the first timeGoogle AdSense’s new big box ads. Google was showing off this house ad. Unless of course this ad was bought and placed on Slashdot.

Either way, interesting to see them courting the tech crowd, and I’m really interested to see what the impact of them creating the largest advertising network in the world is.
